Understand the two systems
An IP camera system sends video over a network and commonly uses an NVR. Compatible PoE cameras can receive power and data through one network cable. HD analogue systems commonly use coaxial video cabling and a DVR or XVR. Check the exact recorder and camera specifications before mixing equipment.
Check before upgrading
Tell Finch whether you already have cameras, a recorder and cables. Share the model numbers if available. Reusing suitable equipment may help with an upgrade, but compatibility and cable condition need checking.
Look beyond megapixels
The scene, lighting, camera position and lens all matter. Choose the areas you need to see, whether you need audio, and how long you want recordings kept. Ask for a quotation that includes the recorder, storage, power, cabling and installation.
Before you request a quotation
- Which entrances, tills or parking areas need coverage?
- How many cameras do you need now, and might you add more?
- Do you need audio, remote viewing or backup power?
