Start with sunlight and power
The panel needs a suitable mounting position with good sunlight. Battery capacity, the camera’s power use and cloudy weather affect how long it can operate. Ask for the expected backup time for the proposed equipment and site.
Check how it connects
Solar power and internet access are separate things. Confirm whether the model uses a mobile SIM, Wi-Fi or another connection. For a mobile-data camera, check coverage at the installation point and ask about the ongoing data cost.
Ask what gets recorded
Confirm whether the model records continuously or mainly on events, where footage is stored, and whether any cloud service costs extra. Check how you retrieve footage if the internet is unavailable. Do not assume every solar camera works with an existing recorder.
Before you request a quotation
- Is there a sunny, secure mounting position?
- Do you need continuous recording or event clips?
- What storage, battery and data costs should the quotation include?
